The Notre Dame boys’ track and field team pulled off a dramatic 75–73 win over Wilson Area in Tuesday's tightly contested meet. Fueled by major points in the sprints, throws, and mid-distance events, the Crusaders sealed the victory with clutch performances across the board.
Junior sprinter Alex Clark was a double winner, taking both the 100 meters (10.90) and the 200 meters (22.41) with authority. Sophomore Alexander Pirog added a huge win in the 400 meters (51.53) and placed fifth in the 200. Fellow sophomore Aaron Gordon earned third in the 400 and scored big in the field with a third-place finish in both the high jump (5-09.00) and long jump (18-10.50).
Distance standout Dante Azzolina placed third in the 800 meters (2:08.30) and helped guide the 4x800 relay team—along with Mark Perone, Darek Schaeffer, and Roman Perrucci—to a second-place finish (9:13.78). Freshman Emmett Rieland continued to impress in the 3200, earning third place (10:52.20), and also contributed fourth in the 1600.
In the throws, Ethan Weems anchored the effort with a second-place discus throw of 136-06 and fourth in the shot put (43-10.00). Junior Marc Bartholomew placed fourth in the discus (121-11), and sophomore Joshua Scherer was sixth in shot put and tied for eighth in discus. Jack Kothstein added points in the javelin, placing fourth with a throw of 115-02.
The 4x400 relay team of Gordon, Azzolina, Perone, and Perrucci also earned a crucial third-place finish in 3:55.42, helping to seal the narrow team win.
