Boys Track Defeated by Southern LeHS Despite Strong Individual Efforts

The Notre Dame boys’ track and field team turned in several strong individual performances Tuesday afternoon at Southern Lehigh, despite falling 111–37 in the team score.
Alex Clark made a statement in the 100 meters, sprinting to victory in 10.8 seconds. He was joined by Andrew Shupe, who finished first in the 200 meters (23.4), while Alexander Pirog placed second in the 400 meters (52.5). The Crusaders’ 4x400 relay team, made up of Pirog, Shupe, Aaron Gordon, and Dante Azzolina, captured first place with a time of 3:56.7.
In the distance events, Azzolina placed fourth in the 800 meters (2:16.6) and third in the 1600 meters (5:03.7), while freshman Emmett Rieland had a strong showing in the 3200 meters, finishing second in 11:05.4.
The Crusaders also picked up points in the hurdles and jumps. Sean Tipton claimed third in the 300 hurdles (47.2) and jumped well in both the long and triple jump events. Gordon tied for first in the high jump at 5-11, earning a share of the event title.
In the field events, Notre Dame’s throwing crew brought in key points. Ethan Weems won the discus with a throw of 137-05 and took second in the shot put at 42-10.5. Joshua Scherer also placed third in the shot put (41-08.5) and followed up with a strong third-place finish in the discus (109-09). Senior Jack Kothstein added a third-place result in the javelin with a throw of 114-08.
