Notre Dame baseball continued its postseason surge with an 11-4 win over Philadelphia Academy Charter on Monday, punching their ticket to the PIAA 3A State Quarterfinals.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Crusaders broke through with three runs in the 3rd and two more in the 4th, then erupted for six runs in the 6th to pull away for good. Notre Dame’s offense piled up 12 hits and drew 7 walks, executing in key spots to keep the pressure on throughout the game.
Jason Frederick led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Christian Rivituso added two hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Paul Smith drove in three runs. Clemente Cintron, Austin Casal, and Colin Pevorus also contributed with timely hits and RBIs as the Crusaders spread production throughout the lineup.
On the mound, Michael Martino earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing just three hits and three runs, while striking out six. Rivituso pitched the final two innings to close it out, giving up one run and striking out two.
Notre Dame now advances to the state quarterfinals where they will face Berks Catholic on Thursday at 4 PM at Methacton High School.
