In a high-scoring battle on Monday, the Notre Dame baseball came up just short in a 12-11 loss to Bangor. Despite a strong offensive showing and a valiant comeback effort, early defensive miscues and a big start by Bangor proved too much to overcome.
Bangor jumped out early with eight runs in the first two innings, capitalizing on Notre Dame’s shaky start. Notre Dame responded with a five-run third inning and kept the pressure on with three-run rallies in both the fifth and sixth innings. Jason Frederick led the way at the plate with two hits and five RBIs, while Michael Wachter added two hits, two runs, and an RBI.
On the mound, Notre Dame cycled through four pitchers. Austin Casal provided stability in the middle innings, giving up just one earned run over four innings.
Notre Dame outhit Bangor 12 to 11 but left 11 runners on base and committed four errors, which proved costly.
The Crusaders will look to bounce back quickly as they head to Moravian Academy for another matchup today.
